The Compatible Connection

Post by Capn's Daughter on Sun Jan 13, 2008 3:59 am

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 2:41-42

There was once a time where in order to meet someone new you would have to actually have to physically interact with the person. Now, with the advent of chat rooms, MySpace, Facebook, and internet dating services, you can get to know someone long before you ever meet them. You can create your own personal profile and meet people based on your compatibility.

Compatibility is the most important aspect of a great relationship. Now that doesn't mean that you have to meet your clone to have a relationship. Some of the best friendships are formed from contrasting personalities, but they share something in common. But instead of looking to the internet to develop quality friendships, why not check out the local church?

The church is a great place to find relationships of all types. God created the church to be relational. When the church is running on all cylinders, there should be relationships forming left and right. People of all types of backgrounds, personalities and dreams come together with the common bond of Christ. There is enough diversity to find personality traits that are attractive, yet the most important shared characteristic is that of a relationship with Christ.

Remember, developing quality friends is intentional. Even at the church, relationships do not just happen. There are still relational risks to be taken. Finding a place to volunteer can be a great way to meet people with common interests. Also, being connected to a small group that you can share your life with will definitely help you find some great, long lasting friends. There are options at every church, but it's up to you to get plugged in.

A Prayer for Today
Lord, thank you for creating the local church where I can develop good, quality friends. Help me to find a place where I can get plugged in and find compatible friends that will share in the most important common bond of my life, a relationship with Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
