Opposites attract.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
2 Corinthians 6:14

Whether you're talking about magnets, peanut butter and jelly, or men and women, I think it is safe to say that opposites attract. Everything that God has created is perfect and has balance. But if you look closely at attracting opposites, there is always a common bond of similarity that actually brings them together.

Some of your most intimate relationships may be with people who are totally opposite of you. But they should not be so opposite that your relationship becomes unhealthy and unbalanced. Spouses, quality friends, and relationships of that nature should be reserved for those who would be a good fit on the other side of your yoke. But that doesn't mean that you should only associate with other Christ-followers.

Jesus didn't restrict himself to some holy huddle of perfect people. He spent large amounts of time with people who were spiritual outsiders. He hung out with them, prayed for them, and healed them. But his most intimate relationships were reserved for those with similar beliefs and goals. Jesus was equally yoked, yet he had diverse relationships.

Opposite interests or personality traits may be good for your relationships. But if your yoke is not made up of your core values and goals, you will always drift off the desired path. Just make sure your intimate relationships have the common connection of Christ that brings you together.

A Prayer for Today
Lord, relationships are a huge part of my life, and I am so thankful for all of the relationships that have developed over the years. Help me to evaluate my current relationships and put them in the proper places in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
